Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #113 is published by BOOM! Studios, written by Melissa Flores, illustrated by Simona Di Gianfelice, coloured by Raūl Angulo and lettered by Ed Dukeshire.

Issue #113 is available 25th October 2023 either directly from BOOM! Studios online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

The third chapter of the groundbreaking DARKEST HOUR event continues as the number of corrupted Rangers pouring through the Master Arch becomes overwhelming. But this time they’re taking captives! As Billy seeks answers from the only beings who may be able to provide them, an old ally of Zordon’s may be able to turn the tide… but will it be enough as Dark Specter’s infectious corruption spreads out of control across time and space?

    Review

The effects of Mistress Vile unleashing the infection into the Morphin Grid can be felt far and wide over the different time zones wherever the Master Arch can reach. Dark Spectre and Mistress Vile along with their band of evil helpers can move about the multiverse with general ease, with their movements the infection spreads, the Rangers believe that they can fend off the evil group unknown to them that any Morphin will only put them at risk from infection too. This is what Dark Spectre has always wanted and is revelling in seeing his evil plan come to fruition.

There is a brief glimmer of hope on the horizon as Billy seeks to find the answers to allow him to stop the infection, but does he have the knowledge to implement the plan, not quite but there is someone looming that might.

The Darkest Hour event is probably my favourite event that has come from the Power Rangers multiverse so far, the Eltarian War was epic in scale but you always had the feeling that good will prevail and the Rangers would come out on top however with the Darkest Hour you just can’t see the way out with hope diminishing before your very eyes.

Melissa Flores is one of the strongest writers in comics right now, since her introduction in the Power Rangers comic world I have been consistently blown away with her writing style, each issue I read on the edge of my seat with my mouth open aghast at the events I am privileged to witness unfolding before my eyes. Her words effortlessly flow between the pages that enables you to read the books in one comfortable sitting with no issue at all, I am at this point concerned at the future of the Power Rangers but at the same time bursting with anticipation as to what will happen.

With a book as strong in quality as this you need illustrations that exentuate the quality and that’s exactly what we have here with Simona Di Gianfelice and Raūl Angulo providing their best work together with impactful artwork and colours that thrust the reader into the impending eternal darkness, the Darkest Hour is upon us and this book visually gives you the chilling reality of that darkness.

    Verdict

Multiply this score by three to come somewhere near to my thoughts on this book, Melissa Flores heads a creative team that are producing their best work to bring us the event not to be missed in comics right now and I would go as far to say the event of the year. You must not miss this.
