Crunchyroll, in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment, has debuted the first official trailer for the highly anticipated anime feature film Witch on the Holy Night (Mahoutsukai no Yoru). Along with fresh footage showcasing ufotable’s signature jaw-dropping animation, the teaser offers fans a first listen to the film’s theme song, titled “Yoru to Ao,” performed by the music group supercell.
Helmed by director Masaru Takeuchi, the supernatural fantasy adapts Kinoko Nasu’s acclaimed visual novel of the same name. The story centers on Aoko Aozaki, an seemingly ordinary high school girl hiding a massive secret: she is an apprentice magician navigating the modern world. While sharing a home with fellow mage Alice Kuonji and striving to master her craft, Aoko’s life shifts dramatically after an unexpected encounter with an ordinary boy, setting the stage for the awakening of a true witch.
The collaboration marks the next chapter in a legendary creative partnership. Over the past two decades, TYPE-MOON and ufotable have set the visual benchmark for modern anime through major adaptations, from The Garden of Sinners (Kara no Kyoukai) film series to Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] and the critically acclaimed Fate/stay night [Heaven’s Feel] trilogy. ufotable, fresh off massive acclaim for their work on Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, looks set to bring that same technical wizardry and visceral combat choreography to the Nasuverse once more.
