Last week, ahead of the return of DC Studios rambunctious Peacemaker, we had the chance to sit down with some of the series cast. We talked dance routines, stunt work and even dug deeper in to some of season 2’s darker, more emotional moments. So today we’re going to be bringing you all of the highlights from each of these sessions.

Following our chats with David Denman and the dynamic duo of Danielle Brooks and Freddie Stroma, now we’re sitting down with DCU newcomer Sol Rodriguez and her scene partner, the hilarious Steve Agee. We couldn’t resist asking them about season 2’s incredible opening dance number as well as what it was like working with each other on set.

Check out the official trailer for season 2 in the player below and scroll down for our chat with Sol and Steve:

NB: This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Neil (GYCO): You have some really wonderful moments together on screen. So I wanted to ask you a little bit about working together, how with those moments, playing off Economos’ dry wit with Bordeaux’s maybe slightly more disciplined manner. What was that like on set working together?

Steve Agee (SA): First of all, I think it’s funny that this is a character who has more agency than I do. She is my boss and as you can see now, I am towering above her. I have a very short torso so when I’m standing it’s even more obvious. She’s tiny and I’m giant. So that, even visually, is very funny. But I met Sol [before shooting]. I got dinner with her and Nhut Le who plays Judomaster on the show before we started shooting [season 2]. So I already knew [before shooting] that I got along with her.

Sol Rodriguez (SR): It was just so great meeting him and knowing that we were in good hands. Like you say we had dinner before we started filming. So for me it felt safe knowing that I was to work with him. He was such a kind, funny person to work with. So I feel safer to go to set. I met the rest of the cast and I was like “this is a dream come true”. But Steve was kind enough to give his time to get to know me and see me before all of that. So that was amazing.

SA: I like to suss people out before I work with them and see how horrible they are! [Laughs]

NV: Let’s talk dance routines for a moment. Steve, this is your second go around for the series’ huge opening credit sequence. Sol, this is your first time. What was it like getting to do the dance number for season 2?

SA: It was honestly the most stressful part of the job for me. I’m six foot seven and I am not a good dancer. I’m very out of shape. The dance number from season one almost killed me. That was [a] one day [shoot] and not even a full day. That was an afternoon of shooting that. I know going in to season 2 that it was going to take two days to shoot this because there were so many more characters. It’s much more epic. They put out the shooting schedule and I’m like okay here’s the two days that I have to shoot. It’s just this dark cloud looming.

I have no problem doing it because I know it’s going to be one of the most talked about parts of the show. So I’m very proud once it’s done to see myself doing it. It’s great but I was honestly scared. I was like just don’t let me faint or throw up while we’re doing this.

SR: I had the time of my life. I love dancing and having the entire cast together with James on the stage dancing all day. It was the best day of my life [laughs]. I enjoyed it so much and it was good song to dance to. Foxy Shazam is the best. It’s so much fun. I can’t wait for what the reaction is going to be like when everyone has seen it.

    SA: Same.

Peacemaker stars John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick return for season two. New cast members include Frank Grillo, David Denman, Sol Rodriguez, and Tim Meadows.

James Gunn wrote all eight episodes of season two and directed three, including the first episode. Gunn, Peter Safran, and John Cena serve as executive producers. Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Althea Jones also direct. Based on characters from DC, Peacemaker is produced by Gunn’s Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television.
