HBO Max UK & Ireland has announced two large licensing deals with A24 and AMC Global Media, bringing a heavyweight roster of fresh hit movies, acclaimed series, and library favourites exclusively to the platform starting this October. Headlining the massive content expansion is A24’s 2026 horror blockbuster Backrooms and Jonathan Glatzer’s star-studded Silicon Valley comedy satire The Audacity.
Fresh off a record-breaking theatrical run where it grossed over $400 million worldwide—becoming A24’s highest-grossing film to date—Backrooms will make its exclusive UK and Ireland streaming debut on the 26th October. Directed by Kane Parsons, who became A24’s youngest-ever feature director, the psychological horror stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve as they navigate one of the internet’s most viral nightmare: an endless, impossible labyrinth of yellow rooms.
This licensing agreement with A24 spans first-run and later-window films, new series, and acclaimed catalogue titles. Subscribers can look forward to the first-run series Born to Bowl arriving on the 13th October, alongside upcoming A24 feature films and celebrated classics like The Whale, Warfare, and the Oscar®-winning Moonlight.
From AMC Global Media, HBO Max has secured exclusive UK and Ireland rights to Seasons 1 and 2 of The Audacity, a darkly comedic tech-industry satire created by Emmy®, Peabody®, WGA®, and PGA® Award-winner Jonathan Glatzer (Succession, Bad Sisters, Better Call Saul). Season 1 premieres on 22nd October, with Season 2 confirmed to follow exclusively on the platform in 2027.
The eight-episode series explores the outsized egos, warped ethics, and corporate delusions of Silicon Valley by following data-mining CEO Duncan Park as he attempts to turn insight and influence into profit and power. The ensemble cast features Billy Magnussen as Duncan Park, alongside Sarah Goldberg, Zach Galifianakis, Lucy Punch, and Simon Helberg.
Additionally, the AMC deal brings all six seasons of the BAFTA®-winning drama Line of Duty to HBO Max in the UK, alongside acclaimed movie acquisitions including Oddity and The Spine of Night.
