Netflix’s AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER Renewed For Two Final Seasons

Aang's story isn't over! Netflix have renewed their live-action adaptation for two more seasons.

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Since the live-action show debuted on Netflix on February 22nd, Avatar: The Last Airbender has dominated the chart with over 41 million views. While there have been discussions regarding the show’s fidelity to the original animated show, it’s safe to say that quite a lot of people enjoyed this retelling. With that, Netflix have decided to double down on the Avatar love.

Yesterday, the streaming service announced that Aang’s journey will continue with two more seasons. Fans of the original animated show will most likely smile at this prospect, because this live-action adaptation is using the show’s three-book format. The first season of the live-action show adapted a condensed version of the original show’s opening season, also known as “Book One”. Book Two of the animated show focuses more on Aang’s waterbending skills, but more importantly introduces Toph Beifong, an earthbender who becomes a key member of the Gaang. Then the final season, Book Three, delves deep into Aang’s firebending training as well as the inevitable fight against Fire Lord Ozai.

With this in mind, it’s very likely that the live-action series will loosely follow that layout. Of course, as we saw in season one, things will most likely be changed, reduced, or even skipped entirely, but we’re hoping that key beats are kept in; Aang unlocking the chakras, Zuko’s metamorphosis, the dragon dance, the Last Agni Kai, perhaps even “that’s rough, buddy”, there are tonnes of moments that resonate with us Avatar fans, but it will be interesting to see how Netflix tackle Aang’s journey.

Not only did Netflix share the announcement via their post above, they also enlisted the help of Fire Lord Ozai himself, Daniel Dae Kim, to play a small little prank on the cast. It’s a very funny and sweet moment between the cast, so we highly recommend checking it out.

Now that we know that Avatar will be continuing, it hopefully won’t be long before we receive some sort of release window. Capitalising on its success, and ensuring the younger stars don’t grow up too quickly, season two may be closer than we think… and hope.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is available to stream in its entirety exclusively on Netflix. Are you excited for more from the Gaang? Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to check out more TV news right here.
