Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures #8 is published by IDW Publishing, written by Erik Burnham, illustrated by Sarah Myer, coloured by Luis Antonio Delgado and lettered by Ed Dukeshire.

Issue #8 is available now, either directly from IDW Publishing online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

Once upon a time, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles encountered Mr. Ogg, a card-carrying trickster type from an alternate dimension. Now he’s back and it’s no more Mr. Nice Guy as Ogg charges the Turtles with a crime that they’re most definitely guilty of, and Raphael is the guiltiest of all!

It’s an extradimensional accusation of the meta kind-with some bonus extraterrestrials to boot in the form of Wingnut and Screwloose-all in this issue of Saturday Morning Adventures!

    Review

In this issue we see our favourite heroes in deep water as an old enemy returns and this time he’s not playing nice. Mr Ogg or Ogg the Magnificent as he prefers now. Ogg is back as judge, jury and executioner as he tries the turtles for continually breaking universal laws, which basically comes down to the turtles breaking the fourth wall and interacting with the viewers which you could say is seriously frowned upon within certain villainous circles.

Transported to another dimension, left trapped unless they can come up with a plan to trick the ultimate trickster. The usual all guns blazing attack won’t work against Ogg he’s far to smart, the turtles will need to shout smart the tricky villain. Donatello seizes the moment and hatches a plan that will allow the turtles to escape, that will involve the turtles convincing Ogg there is a cure to boredom, the ultimate threat to anyone’s sanity especially lonely villains, can they convince the ultimate trickster?

This series is an overall fun fest with lots of light hearted fun. Erik Burnham writes a story that will appeal to the younger readers but also readers like myself who are of that age where you will remember sitting on the sofa and enjoying the Saturday morning cartoons and TMNT was the top of my watchlist. This story feels like it has been plucked from the screens but it still appeals to me now, it still has that vibrant fun energy as the turtles go about the ultimate reverse trickery as they try to pull the wool over Ogg’s eyes.

Thanks to Sarah Myer and Luis Antonio Delgado the artwork explodes with full “cowabunga” attitude each panel packs a colourful punch that you only get with the heroes in a half shell.

    Verdict

A glorious return to the ultimate time of cartoon, the turtles go up against an old enemy but this time he has more power, this is going to be a tough challenge but one they are more than up to that challenge. A fun nostalgia read that will appeal to readers of all ages especially those that remember cartoon Saturdays.
