IDW Publishing has announced acclaimed author Timothy Zahn is joining the final frontier with a new original graphic novel, Star Trek: Roc’s Egg, set to release October 2027. The legendary science fiction and fantasy author is best known for his New York Times-bestselling Star Wars: Thrawn trilogy and his work as creative consultant for the Disney+ miniseries Ahsoka, as well as the Hugo Award-winning Cascade Point. Zahn will be teaming up with celebrated comic artist Ángel Hernández (Star Trek: Voyager – Homecoming, Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens, Spider-Man) to bring this all-new Star Trek adventure to life.
Though we don’t have any artwork from the book to show just yet, IDW has debuted a tantalising synopsis:
Something is rotten on Deep Space 9.
When a mysterious artifact known as a Roc’s Egg arrives on the station—and is seemingly destroyed in transit—a Federation JAG investigation is called in to uncover what really happened. But the deeper the team digs, the stranger the mystery becomes: a secret auction, a station full of wealthy collectors and dangerous criminals, a priceless artifact that may not be what it seems, and a murder waiting to happen.
“My association with Star Trek goes all the way back to 1966 and the original TV series. Now, after sixty years, I’ve been given the chance to add my own small grace note to that rich and vibrant symphony,” says author Timothy Zahn. “This is a huge honor and privilege, and one which I will always cherish.”

The announces comes as IDW continues its celebration of 60 years of Star Trek which has included recent releases Star Trek: 60th Anniversary Special and an all-new Star Trek #1, which set a new sales record for the franchise at IDW.
