Neil’s top 5 moments from THE FLASH

Over the last 5 years The Flash has wowed us with countless trips around the multi-verse. The series has dived deep on DC Comics lore and brought to life plenty of characters we never thought we would see in live action.

Today we’re celebrating today’s release of The Flash season 5 on Blu-ray™ & DVD by taking a look at Neil’s top 5 Flash moments!

    5. Becoming The Flash!

    Episode 1×01: “Pilot”

Let’s start at the very beginning. The moment which started it all, when Barry Allen first wakes up from his seven month coma and learns of his new powers.

The pilot episode of The Flash was an excellent glimpse in to the series and how it would differ from its parent series, Arrow. The Flash instantly had a much more colourful palette and refreshingly upbeat nature.

Where Arrow kept Oliver Queen isolated in a city of villains, The Flash quickly surrounded Barry with the characters we would come to lovingly call Team Flash.

Seeing Caitlyn and Cisco helping Barry to understand his speed for the first time made for compelling viewing. Whilst flashbacks to the night or Nora Allen’s death and family scenes with Joe West showed that the series was capable of some truly emotional moments.

    4. Flash vs. Arrow

    Episode 1×08: “Flash vs. Arrow”

It seems like years ago that Arrow and The Flash first crossed over. In actual fact it was almost five years ago that Barry and Oliver teamed up to take down Captain Boomerang.

These were simpler times when crossovers were grounded in the reality of Arrow rather than traversing the multi-verse like this year’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths”.

But nothing will quite compare to the excitement of seeing the two shows crossing over. Their casts mixing for the first time and how it would instantly blow the world of DCTV wide open.

Though we long for happier and much simpler times, looking back on “Flash vs. Arrow” shows just how far this universe has come over the last five years and it’s amazing to think where we could go in the next five.

    3. The Flash races Super… girl

    Supergirl episode 1×18: “Worlds Finest”

Okay, okay this isn’t an episode of The Flash but it does still include his character in a big way.

Back when Supergirl was airing on CBS and with the rest of the Arrowverse on The CW it seemed like the two franchises would never meet. But thanks to some trickery (and an excellent analogy for crossing universes), Barry Allen was able to hop over to another earth and meet Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist).

The episode brought to life an iconic moments from the comic books when Barry raced with Superman. Replacing the Man of Steel for the Girl of Steel was a genius way to put a feminist twist on an iconic moment. But it also allowed for a crossover event with a much lighter storyline.

Barry and Kara’s series are brilliantly matched in their tone but also their outlooks on life are a recipe for electric viewing.

    2. The death of Nora West-Allen

    Episode 5×15: “Legacy”

Over the years The Flash has proven that it can portray drama just as well as it can comedy. Despite all of the comedy style villains and capers that Team Flash has gotten themselves into over the years the series can still make us reach for the tissues when the story calls for it.

Season 5 saw the addition of Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker-Kennedy) to the cast as the future daughter of Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton).

To begin with Barry struggled to trust his daughter, afraid and burned from double-crossings past. But after sharing several adventures with the fledgling speedster known as XS, Barry soon began to bond with Nora.

Come the end of the season Nora is wiped from the timeline after Team Flash are able to stop Cicada and Reverse Flash. The series culminates in a tear-jerker of a sequence as Nora fades in to non-existence in the arms of her parents.

The moment is perhaps the most poignant in The Flash‘s five year history and is one we won’t be forgetting any time soon.

    1. Reaching 100…

Episode 5×08: “What’s Past Is Prologue”

During season 5 The Flash reached its 100th episode. A huge milestone for a series in the modern era of TV. The episode was a chance for the series to celebrate storylines and characters past whilst looking towards the future.

Barry and Nora time travel to gather items needed to stop Cicada; a highly magnetic alloy from Savitar’s armour. The journey takes them back to several iconic moments from the past and allows some major villains to return as guest stars.

Savitar, Zoom, Reverse Flash and a visit from a Time Wraith all help this episode to become one of the best moments, so far, in the series.

But then, in a cliffhanger ending, Nora travels to the future to confront the man with whom she is working… none other than Eobard Thawne!
