Studiocanal has confirmed its plans for a 20th anniversary, theatrical re-release of Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro’s (Frankenstein; The Shape of Water) acclaimed masterpiece Pan’s Labyrinth, presented in a new 4K restoration and returning to cinemas across the UK from October 30, 2026.
First released in 2006, the new restoration premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, 20 years after its original world premiere at Cannes, where it received a historic 22-minute standing ovation. Restored from the original 35mm negative, every stage has been supervised by Guillermo del Toro, who brings his extraordinary visual world back to the big screen with renewed clarity and detail. The film will screen nationwide in 4K, including select 35mm and special 3D presentations. A 20th anniversary 4K UHD Collector’s Edition will also follow in 2027.

Set in Spain in 1944, in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, Pan’s Labyrinth follows young Ofelia (Ivana Baquero: ANOTHER ME; THE NEW DAUGHTER; FRAGILE), who moves with her frail, pregnant mother (Ariadna Gil: BELLE ÉPOQUE; APPALOOSA) to a remote military outpost to live with her sadistic stepfather Captain Vidal (Sergi López: HARRY, UN AMI QUI VOUS VEUT DU BIEN; DIRTY PRETTY THINGS), a ruthless fascist officer. Ofelia befriends the housekeeper Mercedes (Maribel Verdú: Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN; TETRO), who, unbeknown to Vidal, secretly aids the resistance. Fascinated by the strange landscape, Ofelia discovers an ancient labyrinth where she encounters a faun (Doug Jones: THE SHAPE OF WATER; HELLBOY) who tells her that she is the lost princess of an underground kingdom and must complete a series of tasks to prove her identity in order to return to her kingdom. As she undertakes three dangerous tasks, Ofelia’s fantastical world becomes increasingly intertwined with the brutal reality surrounding her.
Blending dark fantasy and horror with historical drama, the film is one of the most celebrated films of the 21st century. The film received more than 100 awards worldwide, including three Oscars for Cinematography, Art Direction and Makeup and two BAFTAs for Film Not in the English Language and Costume Design. Guillermo Navarro’s (THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE; HELLBOY; JACKIE BROWN) extraordinary cinematography adds depth and atmosphere to Guillermo del Toro’s darkly imaginative world, perfectly complementing the work of one of cinema’s most visionary directors.
