Crunchyroll, the global home of all things anime, has announced the season two acquisition of the critically acclaimed Witch Hat Atelier, based on Kamome Shirahama’s award-winning manga. Picking up after the sinister Brimmed Caps attack the apprentices in the Serpentback Cave, the series is slated to premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll worldwide excluding Asia.
In a world where only born witches can cast spells, Witch Hat Atelier follows the adventures of Coco, a bright-eyed girl determined to become a witch where magic is a closely guarded secret. After a tragic accident while attempting forbidden magic, she is taken in by the magnificent witch Qifrey to learn the art and right her wrongs.
Since its first season, Witch Hat Atelier has garnered widespread praise for its lush visual storytelling and thoughtful themes of perseverance and belonging. Produced by BUG FILMS, the new season promises the same breathtaking hand-crafted animation and deeply moving narrative that captivated audiences and critics alike.
Kamome Shirahama’s Witch Hat Atelier is an ongoing manga, which began serialisation by Kodansha in 2016 and has sold over seven million copies worldwide, earning numerous international accolades including the Eisner Award and Harvey Award.
The Witch Hat Atelier anime adaptation is directed by Ayumu Watanabe (Summer Time Rendering; Komi Can’t Communicate), while music is composed by Yuka Kitamura(Elden Ring; Bloodborne; Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice).
In a world where only witches can cast magic, they must avoid being seen by ordinary people while casting. While Coco does her chores, she daydreams of becoming a witch. When a young witch named Qifrey visits her village, Coco uncovers the “absolute secret,” becomes Qifrey’s apprentice, and begins her studies. This is the story of children who encounter despair, yet reach out toward hope.
