    THE SCORCHED #24 Review

The Scorched #24 is published by Image Comics, written by John Layman with Todd McFarlane, illustrated by Stephen Segovia, coloured by Jay David Ramos and lettered by Andworld Design.

Issue #24 is available 13th December 2023 either directly from Image Comics online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

After a devastating loss, the Scorched decide to refocus their mission and strike back at the person they feel is responsible for their recent problems.

    Review

We begin this issue we follow Mister Bishop with his companions descending into the darkest depths of an ancient ruined church but this isn’t a church for praise for what lies beneath is probably something that should never be awoken, the events that lie ahead will prove that that is just the case.

After recent events Jessica Priest and other members of The Scorched have been left soul searching trying to find the inner strength to keep going now that Spawn is out of the picture, showing their human forms Jessica, Medieval and Redeemer talk about how and even if they should proceed as a unit, they need a leader one that can lead with determination and complete lack of fear the time is here for Jessica Priest/She-Spawn to step up but can she do it? Well she may well have her mind made up for her with what’s to come, we are moving to the next stage of this group of anti heroes but how are they going to do that is anyone’s guess but they need to make their minds up and fast.

Just when you thought that a series may about to be coming to an end a writer comes along and injects new energy and life into it that makes it feel as fresh as it’s ever been, John Layman along with Todd McFarlane are taking The Scorched to the next level with this new direction where you feel like you are about to step into the unknown and to be fair if I am going to do it Todd McFarlane is definitely the guy I need to guide me. The characters within the group are all at a crossroads and need a storyline that will pull them all back together and if this issue is any indication this is definitely the storyline we need.

As usual the illustrations from Stephen Segovia are perfect for the story with an intense darkness that chills you when needed and gives you an unnerving sense of anticipation for what is to come

    Verdict

The Spawn multiverse is going from strength to strength in recent times and it doesn’t look like it Wil stop at any point soon and nor do I want it too, with strong talents within the creative team this engine is only going to gather strength. The Scorched is definitely one of my favourite comics and I’m looking forward to see where this new pathway will lead.
