    Synopsis

The Summer of Slaughter grows more dangerous as the power struggle for the role of Dragon continues!

From the world of James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera’s award-winning series comes the next chapter in Fall of the House of Slaughter, written by Slaughterverse veteran Tate Brombal (House of Slaughter) and illustrated by Adriano Turtulici (You’ll Do Bad Things)!

As Cecilia arrives onsite to take care of the White Masks’ hunt gone wrong, Colin begins making his sinisterly calculated moves back at the House of Slaughter.

Witness the penultimate chapter in the high-stakes political battle for the House’s next leader!

    Review

Issue # of Fall of the House of Slaughter is the penultimate issue, which means we have one more juicy issue left before this is all done and dusted, and you can feel the tensions rising. The Old Dragon is on his last legs, which means his seat is up for grabs, and it’s turned everyone into a crazy person (well, more than usual).

Power is in the balance, and if we know one thing about a group of mysterious, dark, twisted hunters, they love power, which naturally means every character is acting purely in the pursuit of personal gain. It’s the kind of scheming the Slaughterverse does best, because no character can be truly trusted. This universe has never been shy about building a cast of characters who are devious, tactical, and cunning, and it often reminds me of Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon in that regard, which is meant as a high compliment. I do love the juxtaposition of these brutal killers fighting monsters left and right, while also fighting each other for power. It has a fun message that sometimes we humans are the monsters.

That dark, will-do-anything-to-win energy can be seen at the top of the issue, as it wastes no time diving headfirst into the action, as Cecilia and her crew go up against a very interesting-looking monster. It’s another element of this world I adore: the character design here strikes the perfect balance between Saturday-morning cartoon and your worst nightmare. But the real tension is Cecilia herself. She’s really being put through the wringer in this one. Every time she zigs, someone else zags, and her plans keep getting sideswiped. You can feel her frustration building.

We have one more issue to go, and this issue has done an excellent job of laying the groundwork and showcasing the various players. I just know that issue #4 is going to be one for the ages. So, if you’ve been teetering on the edge, now is a great time to jump into the Slaughterverse. The entire series and its spin-offs are nothing short of incredible, but it’s really hitting a stride right now that feels pivotal. If you’re debating taking the leap, I say dive right in.

    Verdict

Fall of the House of Slaughter feels pivotal to the Slaughterverse and is not to be missed. While this issue feels more of a building block than an action-packed romp, it’s clear that with the Old Dragon dying and power up for grabs, Fall of the House of Slaughter #3 turns every character into a schemer, and it’s some of the most gripping political chaos the Slaughterverse has served up yet.
