    Synopsis

Bang bang bang! Introducing the soon-to-be DC Comics sensation—the Gunbuddies! They love each other almost as much as they love guns! Take it from me, everybody wants a piece of Harley Quinn—including my own brain! Can the Clown Queen of Crime (me) dodge assassination attempts, navigate the responsibilities of being part of a neighbourhood party planning committee, and come to terms with my own super-superego all in time to not have a surprise aneurysm all over the floor of my favourite bodega!

    Review

The 50th issue of Harley Quinn kicks off with a good old-fashioned “I need to change everything about myself” existential crisis, which is honestly super relatable. We return to Throatcutter Hill to discover that Harley is taking a break from her campaign of destruction to focus on herself, but in the process, she discovers something much worse. Her self?

Harley is out to make some changes–both internally and ‘systematically’–which results in a new accent, a new attitude, and a new “Harley” (sort of). Following her previous encounter with Althea, Harley takes a walk down memory lane where she confronts and attempts to rectify some of her mistakes, ranging from how she treats people poorly to her bad behaviour, like stealing junk food from a bodega. On her Eat, Pray, Love path, she miraculously discovers that her neighbourhood has an opening on the block party committee, and hence, the chaos begins to unfold.

Throughout the series (and her life), Harley has been in a consistent battle with her brain and her thoughts, but in this issue, that takes a literal form. Harley is taken hostage by her own mind and has to fight herself to not only overcome her inner conflict but also to rediscover herself…it’s all very meta, and very Harley. It’s a journey of self-discovery through the lens of Harley Quinn, which, as you can imagine, is as crazy as it sounds.

Overall, issue #50 showcases yet again why Harley Quinn is a standout character in the comic world. Her unpredictability adds an electrifying thrill to every story, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. Whether she’s unleashing a perfectly timed joke or throwing a punch at someone who dares to look at her the wrong way, this latest run by  Elliott Kalan (Author), Mirka Andolfo (Artist) captures the essence of Harley beautifully. They breathe life into her character through the words on the page and the art that brings those words to life, blending charm and humour seamlessly. The narrative is a wild ride, filled with unexpected twists and outrageous plot turns that keep you guessing at every page. It’s a comic that truly highlights the genius of Harley Quinn, making it an absolute must-read!

    Verdict

Harley Quinn #50 is a wild ride that captures the essence of the character with electrifying unpredictability and clever humour, making it an absolute must-read. Elliott Kalan and Mirka Andolfo brilliantly breathe life into Harley’s chaotic journey of self-discovery, keeping readers engaged with every twist and turn.
