Deadline is reporting that Marvel and ABC are one again in “active talks” in an attempt to launch a female-led, live-action TV series. We previously reported that Wonder Woman scribe, Allan Heinberg, was working on a project for the network which would feature a majority female cast. The trade understands that this new series is separate to that series. That series received a pilot order before being axed back in February. The CW has confirmed it is moving up the premiere date for season three of Black Lightning. The show had originally been set to debut new episodes from Monday, October 21 but the show will instead premiere on October 7. Master of the motion capture, Andy Serkis, has confirmed that he is going to be directing the upcoming Venom 2 for Sony Pictures. There were rumours last week that Serkis was close to signing a deal with the studio to take on the sequel to 2018’s Venom. That movie was directed by Ruben Fleischer. Yesterday The CW held its upfront presentation in readiness for the 2019/20 season kickoff in October. As part of that presentation the cast of Batwoman was on hand to do a round of promo for the shows debut on October 6. Following the presentation the network has released this gallery of stills previewing the pilot episode. The Fast & Furious franchise proved its global appeal this weekend by delivery a $180m opening for spin-off movie Hobbs & Shaw. Drawing a respectable $60.8m in the domestic market the movie easily topped Disney’s The Lion King which fell in to second place in its third week, adding a further $38.2m to its $430.8m domestic total.
