Ranger Academy #3 is published by BOOM! Studios, written by Maria Ingrande Mora, illustrated by Jo Mi-Gyeong, coloured by Fabiana Mascolo and lettered by Ed Dukeshire.

Issue #3 is available 6th December 2023 either directly from BOOM! Studios online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

Though exciting, Ranger Academy is challenging for Sage. Having trouble fitting in, Sage seeks answers in the Academy’s library, discovering a connection to her adoptive father’s past in the library’s archives… In an effort to learn more about the school and her place in it, Sage’s curiosity takes her to an abandoned part of the campus…only to discover something even more shocking than she could ever imagine…

    Review

In this issue we follow Sage as she embarks on her journey in Ranger Academy, although things have changed now Sage has found out some basic information about her father’s past and his connection to the Academy. Sage’s head is all over the place, so many questions rolling around in her head, why was her father so against her leaving for the Academy if he once came here?, why did he leave and not complete his training?

These are questions that Sage will need to find out but there is a definite mystery surrounding Sage’s father’s involvement with the Academy and what impact will this have on Sage. There is a definite mystery within Sage’s history and the answer to what it is may well unlock her future potential.

This story arc is beginning to reach it’s summit, from the beginning you could feel that the story was being given the chance to organically grow by building the story of each character allowing the reader to become invested in their stories. Maria Ingrande Mora utilises her writing talents to sculpt the story of a new potential hero within this vast multiverse. You can help but find the naive innocence of Sage endearing and you find yourself routing for her a she embarks on her journey, not just her journey to become a Ranger her personal journey where she begins to find out who she truly is.

I found the artwork of this book captivating, the almost anime style really added depth to the story adding a visual tension and atmosphere. Jo Mi-Gyeong gives the book a vibrant energy with a unique artistic style that injects energy into every panel, bring that together with the colours from Fabiana Mascolo and you have a unique looking book that is beginning to shine.

    Verdict

The story is beginning to come into it’s own as Sage begins to find the answers she’s looking for but what does this mean for Sage? The book perfectly captures the emotions from Sage as she embarks on the biggest journey of her life in more ways than one. A unique story that is unlike the other Power Rangers stories but has the potential to become equally as important to hr multiverse itself.
