The Flash #791 is published by DC Comics and written by Jeremy Adams. Pencils are by Roger Cruz, inks by Wellington Dias and colours by Luis Guerrero. Letters are by Rob Leigh. Main cover art (left) is by Taurin Clarke.

The Flash #791 is available now in print and on digital where all good comics book are sold.

    Synopsis

The One-Minute War,” part two! The heroes are split after the alien speedsters known as the Fraction smashed into Central City, and must attempt to fend off attacks while trying to formulate a plan. But there’s no time for the heroes to take a breather, as besides the speedsters, Miss Murder is also hunting the team-and she has speed hounds…

    Review

Oh Jeremy Adams, I had a feeling you were going to be tugging at our heart strings. After last months’ opening gambit, “The One Minute War” swiftly escalates on all front as The Fraction makes their presence felt across the landscape of Central City.

Issue #790 left the lives of several characters hanging in the balance. But one in particular holds a significant impact on this second issue. Whilst Barry hasn’t been the focus of The Flash title, his relationship with Wally is key to the letters success as the Scarlet Speedster. Wally’s dedication to Barry’s mission is what motivates him in every mission and in return, particularly in this issue, is why he refuses to leave Barry’s side.

The two lead heroes for the heart of the arc, fighting their way through the city to get back to Wally’s family. The rest of the Flash Family also happens to conveniently be convening at the house along side Linda and the kids. Through only a handful of panels Adams is able to communicate the agony of their journey.

Throughout issue #791 there’s a rollercoaster of emotions. Reunions, rescues and huge losses. It all culminates in a scene which drastically tips the balance in favour of The Fraction and upping the stakes once again ahead of next month.

The team of Cruz, Wellington and Guerrero keep things consistent with the previous issue. There’s less of the large scale imagery this month as the story focusses in more on the human consequences of The Fraction’s arrival on Earth. The gear shift in the story allows the team to flex some different muscles, honing in on key moments like Wally reacting to finding Barry and Iris or the return of Wally and Barry to the West family home.

Cruz’s illustrations bring a classic sensibility to the book. It brings back memories of reading my first comics in the mid-90s with a lively yet well balanced art style. Guerrero’s colours step up to the plate drive home the vibrance of The Flash‘s world.

    Verdict

“The One Minute War” continues in this all-out escalation of the already dire situation. Heartbreaking and suspenseful, Adams and his team aren’t pulling any punches when it comes to this latest apocalyptic Speedster event.
