Rogue Sun #8 is published by Image Comics, written by Ryan Parrott, illustrated by Abel, coloured by Natália Marques and lettered by Becca Carey.

Issue #8 is available 30th November 2022 either directly from Image Comics online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

Still reeling from the aftermath of his fight with Cataclysm Dylan finds himself forging a new path both at home and as a superhero. But with one poor decision comes bitter consequences…and the birth of a villain hellbent on revenge.

    Review

In this issue we see a slight change in direction and pace for Dylan as his focus on purely being a cool superhero must now be shared between “real” and hero life if he is to succeed at either, all under the watchful eye of his concerned mother which does arose suspicion as let’s not forget earlier on in the series she did try to take him out so at this point her intentions are a bit cloudy to say the least. With being the Rogue Sun “real” life isn’t all that Dylan needs to worry about as a villain with a grudge is lurking and wanting to clear up business, the return of Suave is one that Dylan will not look forward to facing again but do so he must if he wants to finish things once and for all and this time Dylan has developed both as a hero and a person so could be an interesting meeting.

Ryan Parrott can’t do bad writing that we know already, although this has a slightly different pace to that of his work with Power Rangers I still feel that he has created a character that has the potential to become iconic in the world of comics. The story of Rogue Sun is kind of a two pronged attack as you not only have the coming of age story of Dylan you also have the character building of Rogue Sun as we see the hero develope his powers and become the Rogue Sun, both sides of the story are developing at the right pace to allow the readers to take ownership of the story of Dylan and grow into the story with him.

The art by Abel is nothing short of incredible the pages seem to light up on each page and highlight the intensity of the Rogue Sun story whilst also toning down when needed when switching to the Dylan side, a great piece of creativity that really adds more depth to the book.

    Verdict

Being a fan of Ryan Parrott I kind of knew that I was going to enjoy this series, yes it is a little different but most definitely in a good way. He seems to have given an injection of life into the superhero genre and long may it continue.
