Anticipation continues to build for director Sam Mendes’ latest film. Following on from two blockbuster Bond movies and the epic 1917, the director has now debuted the teaser trailer for Empire of Light, a celebration of the magic of cinema. Starring Olivia Colman, Michael Ward and Colin Firth, the film was recently dated for a January release in UK cinemas.
Empire of Light is set in an English seaside town in the early 1980s. The powerful and poignant story celebrates human connection and the magic of cinema. Plot details are yet to be revealed but we do know the film stars Academy Award-winner Olivia Colman, BAFTA winner Michael Ward and Academy Award-winner Colin Firth. Co-starring are Tom Brooke, Tanya Moodie, Hannah Onslow, Crystal Clarke and Toby Jones.

Mendes writes and directs the film which reunites him with award-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins with whom he worked on both Skyfall and 1917.
Empire of Light hits UK cinemas on January 13, 2023. It was also recently confirmed that the film will screen at both the Toronto International Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival.
