In a move which will surprise very few people, Marvel Studios has confirmed that Black Widow is shifting release dates. The film, which had been set for release in May, will now debut in theatres and on Disney+ from July 9, 2021.
The previous release date of May 7 arrives before cinemas in the UK are allowed to re-open. That date is also dangerously close given that many US theatres are still closed whilst vaccination programmes roll out. The move to simultaneous release in theatres and on Disney+ mirrors Warner Bros. 2021 release window plans.
Those wishing to access the film at home will require a Disney+ subscription and will be asked to pay a $30 additional fee in order to watch the film. Disney has used the same strategy for both the live-action Mulan and the recent Raya and The Last Dragon.
In confirming the new release date Marvel has also released this brand new poster of Scarlett Johansson suited up in Natasha Romanoff’s white widow suit.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has shifted to a September 3 release. No wonder on whether The Eternals will be moving from its planned November release.
Black Widow will see the return of Scarlett Johansson as Natasha/Black Widow, Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz is Melina.
