Multiple sources, including Deadline, have confirmed that The CW has acquired the broadcast rights to cancelled DC Universe series Swamp Thing. The series will premiere on broadcast and the network’s free ad-supported streaming platforms.
The series first premiered on DC Universe back in May 2019, shortly after the season premiere the news surfaced that the original 13-episode order was being cut to 10. It then transpired that the series was then mothballed by the streaming service.
There’s no clear reason why Swamp Thing came to a premiere end. Many cite reports of issues with tax breaks in North Carolina where the series was shot whilst others believe that DC Universe bosses were concerned the series would not sit well with fans.
Based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, Swamp Thing is produced by Atomic Monster in association with Warner Bros. Television. The series is executive produced by James Wan, Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear and Len Wiseman.
