The mid-season update for Marvel Rivals Season 8: Sins of Alchemax is almost here, and it introduces one of the most anticipated heroes in the game’s history: Cyclops.
The season kicked off on May 15, introducing Dino Dinosaur to the game, a new map, and teasing upcoming characters like Cyclops. Honestly, it feels like the perfect time for Scott Summers to arrive.
Between X-Men ’97, the upcoming Wolverine game, and the mutant rumours surrounding Spider-Man: Brand New Day, 2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for the X-Men. Marvel Rivals has clearly noticed, and the developers have been adding mutants to the roster as quickly as possible.

The X-Men Continue to Take Over Marvel Rivals
Over the last few seasons, Marvel Rivals has become increasingly X-Men focused, which we’re loving. Characters like Emma Frost, Storm, Rogue, and Gambit have quickly become some of the most popular picks in the game, so it’s fair to say any new X-Men are going to be popular.
Emma Frost Marvel Rivals players have dominated ranked matches since her release, while Rogue Marvel Rivals fans have embraced her aggressive playstyle and strong team utility. Gambit remains one of the most popular strategist characters, and Storm continues to be a staple pick across multiple team compositions.
Jean Grey (Phoenix) is also available, and while she has improved thanks to several Marvel Rivals patch notes updates, she still feels slightly unfinished. Her power level is in a much better place than at launch, but she remains a character that could benefit from additional reworks in future seasons.
Cyclops Joins Marvel Rivals
The biggest addition in Marvel Rivals Season 8 is undoubtedly Cyclops.
Cyclops Marvel Rivals arrives as a Duelist (DPS) character, bringing the iconic optic blasts and battlefield leadership that fans have been waiting years to see. His gameplay appears to focus on precision damage, positioning, and sustained pressure, making him a natural fit for players who enjoy aggressive damage-focused heroes.
With Cyclops finally joining the roster, the X-Men lineup in Marvel Rivals feels closer than ever to being complete.
Dino Dinosaur Arrives in Season 8
Season 8 also introduced Dino Dinosaur, adding another unexpected and fun addition to the growing Marvel Rivals character roster. Rivals has done a great job at adding unexpected characters, while also giving us the crowd pleasers, like Cyclops.
While Cyclops is understandably stealing most of the headlines, Dino Dinosaur adds even more personality to a game that continues to embrace both the serious and ridiculous sides of Marvel’s universe.
