MultiVersus: Collision Detected is a 6 issue tie-in comic series published by DC. The series is written by Bryan Q. Miller, art by Jon Sommariva, colours by Matt Herms, and cover by Dan Mora.

MultiVersus: Collision Detected #5 is available now in print and on digital platforms where all good comic books are sold. You can grab your digital copy from Comixology UK here.

    Synopsis

With a countdown clock ticking down toward zero and skies filled with the villainous Devoid’s digitizing drones, Steven Universe’s Multiversus Force prepares for the worst beneath Wayne Manor. But with the Joker, the Wicked Witch, Harley Quinn, and Brainiac all under the same roof, it’s only a matter of time before an already explosive situation outright self-destructs!

    Review

In the fifth issue of MultiVersus: Collision Detected, the adventure and chaos continue to escalate, and our favourite mix of heroes is in for some trouble. As we turn each page, the anticipation builds for the final instalment of this six-issue run—it’s safe to say things are getting juicy (and they were already pretty juicy to begin with).

This issue kicks off with a daring race against time as our heroes leap into action to save Steven Universe, who is unconsciously falling to the bottom of the ocean after a massive explosion. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Bugs Bunny dive in headfirst, determined to rescue him. Having faced relentless challenges and obstacles, the group longs for a moment of respite to collect their thoughts following Stevens’s rescue. However, just as they seem poised to catch their breath, a new, unexpected challenge arises, throwing them back into the action. A mysterious message, “Select your fighter, or they will be chosen for you,” followed by a countdown, in the sky, has appeared, quickly followed by a legion of drones—are our heroes up for the task, whatever that might be? Time will tell.

The Holy Trinity has been slowly rounding up various characters from each universe to fight the mysterious Devoid, whoever, or whatever, that might be. When asked if they have a plan for what comes next, Batman, obviously, steps up to the plate—but Garnet is quick to challenge him, which is hilarious. In that moment, Batman’s face says it all: he looks equally annoyed and over it, which is as hilariously on-brand for the Caped Crusader.

The one thing to note about this comic is how meta and self-aware it is. From the way the characters interact with one another—poking fun at their legacies and iconic trademarks—to the way they acknowledge the weird circumstances they are in, it’s very witty and entertaining. It truly feels like a Saturday morning cartoon special when your favourite shows collide for a one-off special. The comic has done an excellent job of blending each IP’s various tones and styles beautifully, and to be blunt, I want more. I would love to see the team behind this comic do a longer run of issues and explore this story further, because not only has it been a blast to read, it has deepened my enjoyment of the game.

    Verdict

Issue #5 of MultiVersus: Collision Detected delivers exactly what you want from a comic like this: it’s packed with Easter eggs, witty jokes, and entertaining dynamics that pit iconic characters against one another. It’s a delightfully fun ride that’s worth the ticket price.

The upcoming issue will be the final instalment in this six-part series, and with many questions and plot threads still unresolved, will it manage to stick to the landing? If the past five issues serve as any indication, I believe it will be a solid, funny, and entertaining conclusion.
