It’s been a great weekend for comic book movies at the box office. With Aquaman riding high internationally it’s Spider-Man who wears the crown in North America. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse has opened to $35.4M sitting dead centre of the $30-40M predictions. The front loaded weekend saw the Sony Pictures release take $12.7M on Friday, $13.1M on Saturday and closed out the weekend with a $9.5M Sunday. The weekend is over (sadly), the receipts have been counted and the news is in. Aquaman has amassed a whopping $126M at the international box office after expanding into around 40 new territories this week. The latest DC Films release has now clocked up an impressive $189.2M in China alone. It has now passed Captain America: Civil War ($180.8M) to become the third highest grossing comic book movie at the Chinese box office. Worldwide Aquaman has now made $261.3M. 2018 has been a huge year for The Flash. The series has not only participated in the outstanding Elseworlds event but also celebrated its 100th episode before heading in to its winter hiatus. Every now and then a cover comes along which causes a storm on social media. Earlier this week a potential cover leaked for DC’s Heroes In Crisis #7. The cover, clearly by series artist Clay Mann, features the lifeless body of Poison Ivy. Ivy has so far been presumed dead following the massacre at Sanctuary. We can take this cover as confirmation Ivy is indeed one of the victims. The cover caused controversy over the positioning of the body. Warner Bros. and DC Films Aquaman is coming to the end of its second weekend in international cinemas. News is beginning to trickle in that the characters first solo movie is continuing to prove profitable at the box office. In second weekend news the movie is holding well in China and expected to make a further $50M+ by the end of Sunday. On Friday Aquaman made around $27M from international market including $15M in China alone. On Saturday that is expected to rise to around $30-$35M.
