Marvel is currently remaining coy on its upcoming slate of movies in development. Whilst we know they have plans in place for the foreseeable future the studio refuses to discuss those plans until Avengers: Endgame is out in the world. Yesterday the news became official: Aquaman has crossed $1bn world-wide. Only the third DC Comics movie to cross the figure makes this milestone a big deal. James Wan’s aquatic adventure has now surpassed the lifetime gross of The Dark Knight, a movie which many believe the greatest comic book movie of all time. Warner Bros. has a huge reason to celebrate this weekend as Aquaman has crossed $1bn at the worldwide box office! In North America Aquaman has been dethroned by STXFilms’s The Upside. Its box office fell 44% from last weekend to gross a further $17M. The Upside took the top spot with $19M. Aquaman’s North American gross is now around $278.8M. Internationally Jame Wan’s underwater adventure took a further $27.8M this weekend. Its international total is now an impressive $732.4M. The DC Universe crew are currently hard at work on the upcoming Swamp Thing series. But thoughts are now beginning to turn to their next live-action venture: Stargirl. Heroic Hollywood is reporting that veteran DC director David Nutter will be behind the camera for the series pilot. Nutter started his DC journey working as a Director of Photography on Smallville. He went on to direct a number of episodes of that show including the first half of “Absolute Justice” which featured Stargirl in a guest role.
