Review
Lately I’ve had the pleasure of getting into the genre JRPG in alot more depth, the latest title from this genre is the latest adventure in Kirchen Bell, Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of Mysterious Dream.
You play through the game as Sophie the alchemist stepping inside a mysterious world that Sophie has woken up in, exploring a vast fantasy land of Erde Wiege unravelling mysteries and combating various foes you come across. The story is indepth as you follow Sophie and Plachta as they embark on their latest adventure, although I found the story difficult to keep track with as the dialogue is in Japanese with English subtitles, so it took a bit of multi tasking to get my head around the story and it slightly took the shine off the game for me.
There’s no doubt that Atelier Sophie 2 is a stunning game and although the game is classed as a last gen title it definitely stands it’s ground on the next gen console and looks great on a 4k TV that upscales the picture slightly, it follows a similar style to pretty much most JRPG games that I’ve played with a cartoon or anime style utilising the charning new visual style within a stunning game play world. The game is vast and there’s lots to do to keep yourself busy it is however a pleasure to just explore the vast landscape discoving different areas as you go.
Verdict
The game itself is enjoyable and charming, the story gets a bit lost in the cutscenes for me and makes the story harder to follow. If you like anime or are particularly interested in JRPG games then this will be for you.
