‘Justice League’ opens with $96M domestic, $218.5M global (updating)

Justice League

The numbers have started rolling in for Justice League and the picture is looking bleak. At least in the domestic North American setting where the film has bowed to just $96M. After a $38.8M Friday including a strong $13M performance in Thursday previews the film fell -15% to $33M on Saturday. Deadline reports the expectation is that Justice League declines 27% today for $24.1M.

That’s a steep decline from the $110-120M projections made by Warner Bros. going in to the weekend. We will keep this thread updated as the numbers come in.

UPDATE 1: the overall international numbers are out. The film made $185.5M in international territories for a total of $281.5M globally. We’ll update with international territory numbers soon.

UPDATE 2: we’ve got regional numbers, again from  Deadline, which point to Justice League playing much better in international markets than at home in America.

Leading the field globally was China where the film made an impressive $51.7M. That gross is second only to Batman v Superman for WB in China. In Brazil the film has set a record for the biggest opening weekend ever for any movie with $14.2M. In Latin America, where Deadline reports DC Comics properties always over perform the total for the weekend was $35.4M.

Here in the UK Justice League opened with $9.8M which was +51% over Wonder Woman back in June. Mexico is at $9.6M, Korea at $8.8M, Russia is $6.5M, Australia is $6.3M, France is at $6M, Indonesia brought WB second highest opening weekend ever in that territory with $5.8M. The Philippines matched Indonesia also with $5.8M and bringing up the rear are Italy with $3.4M, Spain with $3M and Germany with $2.9M.

Fuelled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Supermans selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes – Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash – it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman and Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. Joining them are Jason Mamoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone/Cyborg, and Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash.

The film is directed by Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Chris Terrio. Justice League hits cinemas on November 17th 2017 from Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.
