Ben Affleck discusses his reasons for exiting THE BATMAN

One of the biggest speed bumps in the history of the modern DC Films universe has easily been the loss of Ben Affleck as Batman. Though Robert Pattinson looks to be a visually striking Batman there are plenty of fans who still await the moment they are able to see the actor as a contender for the role.

As the first footage of Pattinson was release last week plenty of fans were quick to jump to Ben Affleck’s defence with images of his Batman trending globally on Twitter.

In a new interview with the New York Times, Affleck has spoken incredibly candidly about his reasons for leaving the role.

“I showed somebody The Batman script,” Affleck recalled. “They said, ‘I think the script is good. I also think you’ll drink yourself to death if you go through what you just went though again.”

There are sure to be those who claim this to be media spin to help Warner Bros. distance themselves from Zack Snyder and his Batman, but its hard to argue with Affleck leaving the role for his own health.

His struggles with alcohol have been well documented and we commend him for making the brave choice to step away from the role in order to keep himself healthy.

Ben Affleck

Zack Snyder thanks Ben Affleck for his tenure as BATMAN

With the news that Ben Affleck has officially stepped down as Batman many have jumped to mourn their loss. Someone who has stepped in to thank Affleck for his time as Batman is director Zack Snyder.

It was, of course, Snyder who cast Affleck in Batman v Superman and subsequently Justice League. Posting on his Vero Snyder quoted Affleck’s opening monologue from Batman v Superman before saying “Best Batman ever. Thank you my friend for blessing me with that fucking glorious chin and amazing heart.”

It’s a sad time for Bat fans but great to see that despite all of the negativity Snyder still stands behind his time at DC Films.

Batman

Jake Gyllenhaal confirms he won’t be starring in THE BATMAN

The will-he-won’t-he of Ben Affleck and The Batman continues. Whilst we won’t know for sure if he is starring in the film until it is ready to start filming we do know one thing. Jake Gyllenhaal won’t be taking over from him. At least not for now.

The actor has been “strongly rumoured” for some time to be taking over the cowl. But in an interview with CNA Lifestyle (via BatmanNews.com) the actor is asked outright whether he is involved with Batman. His response?

“Wow, that’s a very difficult question. The answer to that question is ‘no.'”

Seems pretty cut and dry to us!

‘Justice League’ tops North American home video sales

Justice League hits DVD and Blu-Ray here in the UK on Monday. Meanwhile the physical release has been available for a couple of weeks in North America. Variety is reporting the film has topped both the combined sales and Blu-Ray charts.

The film has knocked Thor: Ragnarok in to second place, a small win for the DC Films crew. It’s highly likely that the film will find a second life on the home video market as fans put off by Batman v Superman finally check out the film.

According to the trade 70% of fans opted to pick up the film on Blu-Ray. 12% upscaled to the 4k disc.

Fuelled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Supermans selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes – Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash – it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman and Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. Joining them are Jason Mamoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone/Cyborg, and Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash.

Darkseid

‘Justice League’ storyboard art teases Darkseid scenes

For all the talk about course corrections and narrative edits to this day we don’t really know how Darkseid was to be included in Justice League. Now in an article posted by Screen Rant we’ve got a look at some storyboard art, drawn by Zack Snyder, which gives an insight in to what could have been.

It appears that this would be a continuation of the ‘Knightmare’ scene from Batman v Superman. Could the rubble which Batman was seen standing on in that scene have been the remains of the Hall of Justice?

Check out the art below.

Justice League

‘Justice League’ UK home video release date revealed?

Those of us who were able to sit back and enjoy Justice League are eagerly awaiting news of its home video release. Yesterday major websites carried the news that in North America the Target exclusive edition carries a sticker on the front packaging claiming the set includes a bonus scenes not seen in theatres. That’s similar to the one scene included with the Wonder Woman release last year.

Well closer to home we have some unexpected news regarding the films release. Overnight Amazon has updated customers who pre-ordered the film with an email containing a new release date. Subsequently the store has updated it’s website to display the release date as December 31, 2018.

This is likely a place holder date whilst the company waits for Warner Bros. to confirm the real date. Or we could be waiting a while to get our hands on it! Checkout our YouTube playlist for Justice League below! (AppleNews users click the link)

Batman

Just who is playing Batman now? Affleck? Or Gyllenhaal?

Ben Affleck is Batman. Ben Affleck has quit the role. Ben Affleck wants to segue out of the role. Jake Gyllenhaal is taking over. Maybe. Yes, Jake Gyllenhaal is Batman… possibly?

The rumour mill surrounding DC Comics most bankable box office star continues to churn. With Matt Reeves quietly working on the script for The Batman fans and press continue to spread rumours of who will don the cape and cowl.

During the press tour for Justice League Affleck had commented that it wasn’t a role he would play forever. He politely said in the future he would look for a way to segue out of the role. That led to rumours that his next appearance, the final on his DC Films contract, would see him step away from the character.

Rumours last week point to that appearance either being Flashpoint which features the character in its prologue and epilogue only. Or the soon to enter production Suicide Squad 2.

This latest rumour one again puts actor Jake Gyllenhaal in the frame to take over from Affleck.

An article on Revenge of the Fans picked up by most mainstream comics news sites gives an update on the relationship between Warner Bros. and Affleck:

“Gyllenhaal is probably Batman. Affleck is not out of it yet. That’s the thing, he still has a contract. But the studio is sour on him. If Ben rolls, Jake is in. Kind of a weird web. These guys both know they control each other’s destiny.”

Take this news with a grain of salt as it comes from an unnamed source. Could Warner be annoyed with Affleck’s supposed toing and froing on the role? How much of his flip flopping is real and not just the press stirring up rumours for headlines?
