Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures #9 is published by IDW Publishing, written by Erik Burnham and illustrated by Dan Schoening.

Issue #9 is available 10th January 2024 either directly from IDW Publishing online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

Shredder and Krang have finally succeeded in forging a blade capable of cutting through time and space! Called to action to stop Shredder from committing more continuum crimes, the Teenage Mutant Turtles encounter enemies and allies old and new – or maybe new and old? – as the timeline is threatened. Don’t miss this first issue of Saturday Morning Adventures: The Eddiku Trilogy!

    Review

In this issue we see the Turtles taking part in a training session with Master Splinter learning new techniques to help them keep on top of their game, one particular move taught to Leonardo is a defensive strike that with break the opponent’s sword a very useful defensive strategy to have maybe not right now but some day.

The casual training session is interrupted by the sudden appearance of Renet The Mistress of Time with a confusing statement with warning of impending danger, but nothing she is saying is making any sense to the Turtles it turns out she has appeared at the wrong point in time, although confusing the warning could be legit and something the Turtles need to look into.

In the darkness of his secret lair Shredder and Orange have finally done it, they have finally created a sword that is capable of cutting through time giving the evil Master the opportunity to open portals at any point in time giving him the power to change history and change the shape of the very universe as we know it. Shredder must be stopped, the Turtles are on his trail unaware of the new found power he has but for the sake of humanity he must be stopped, Leonardo knows a way!! He breaks the sword using he newly learned technique but the break causes an explosion, a rip through time when the dust settles Shredder and Leonardo are missing, where are they? Or even when are they? And more importantly how can they get back?

This series just gives me a lovely warm feeling inside, it oozes nostalgia from every panel the stories are action packed with a fun vibe and the artwork is exactly as I remembered back in the day.

Erik Burnham writes a story that although has a bit of an intense edge of the seat action feel to it there is a feel good fun theme that flows through it allowing the comic series to appeal to the whole family. This is the first part of a three part trilogy, The Eddiku Trilogy that will see the Turtles go head to head with Shredder once more in a cat and mouse chase through time. I’m looking forward to see how this new trilogy opens up.

The artwork of the book just gives me a nostalgic warm feeling inside, the artwork is a similar to the Turtles cartoons from my childhood which so happened to be my favourite “Saturday Morning Adventures” Dan Schoening does a perfect job at bringing the nostalgic feel and good feeling which also adds a colourful layer to the action on the pages.

    Verdict

This has to be a contender for my favourite comic series right now, it has everything you could want in a comic. When you finish the comic and you’re left with a smile on your face it has to be good. Definitely recommend to all the family looking for an action packed story with a feel good vibe.
