In true Willow fasion, Episode 5 ended on yet another cliffhanger- just when things were getting interesting between Kit and Jade. Typical. But we are back! Episode 6 is here, and the end is very much in sight. There are just two episode left before our journey with Willow and the gang comes to an end. With so much ground to cover still, it’s hard to predict what will happen next. However, the battle against The Crone is inevitable and Willow is going to need to need everyone at their full strength… It would also help if people stopped getting kidnapped. Episode 6 of Willow is officially live! So what are you waiting for? Check out the latest episode exclusively on Disney+ now.

    Synopsis

With Kit and Willow in the hands of the Trolls, it’s up to Elora, Jade, Boorman, Graydon and Scorpia to come up with a plan to rescue them… Obviously it doesn’t go according to plan, and the group get into all sorts of trouble. Meanwhile, Kit and Willow are imprisoned with a stranger claiming to be Madmartigan, Kit’s father, but alas… All is not what it seems.

    Review

There’s a small part of me that is getting slightly tired of the wbole Liam Neeson Taken scenario that Willow is going for. Perhaps “tired” is a strong word. It’s becoming a tad repetitve at this point. However, whenever someone is inevitably kidnapped, the enemies are always new, the outcome is always unique, and the environments are plentiful so it really spices up that familiar narrative. It’s hard to be mad because despite it being familiar, there is still so much to absorb and admire. The repetitive nature definitely seemed more revealing this time, but this episode definitely had more to offer in terms of the wider story. A lot of earlier developments are brought to full fruition, and the fate of Madmartigan is heavily teased. For Kit, this is a fantastic episode that really dives into some of the pain that she’s harboring, and we finally get to explore a few of the questions that have haunted her steps.

Having said that thought, we’re now only one episode away from the finale and while it is impossible to deny Willow‘s dedication to providing an immensely fun and magical adventure, it still feels somewhat stagnant. The main objective to rescue Airk and beat The Crone seem to step further away from us after every episode. Of course, each episode does wonders for our characters with this week’s episode centering in on Kit and her own inner demons, as well as Elora’s battle with her kindled powers. But we’ve reached a point where we need to start receiving answers for some of the mysteries, and they are just out of reach. It’d be a stretch to say that I didn’t like this episode. Once again, I really enjoyed what Willow had to offer. But it would be foolish of me to completely ignore the show’s overall pace.

Putting that aside, this episode is still incredibly fun. Willow has absolutely excelled at introducing this vibrant world to an entirely new generation of fans, and in doing so we’ve been presented with a rich world full of life, and an expansive world that is so much bigger than we thought. This episode allowed us to explore a brand new area that actually developing an intriguing subplot introduced by Boorman a while back. I was waiting for this particular story to resurface, so it was great to see how it all connected to Boorman and Madmartigan, and it definitely seems as though that this storyline still has more to offer. What that means is an utter mystery, but there is definitely something in the works.

What really impressed me this episode was Kit. I’ve loved Kit since the very beginning. I love her feisty attitude, her daring demeanour, and even her vulnerabilities. It’s what makes her unique. We’ve spent a lot of time on the evolving relationship between Kit and Jade, but there’s definitely been a lack of development on Kit’s side. This episode decided to put Jade and Kit aside and work on enhancing Kit in relation to other characters. She spends time with Willow, which is something she hasn’t really done. We finally get to dive into this tragic and twisted relationshup that she has with her father. There are a lot of buried feelings, especially towards Elora, and they all blossom in a fiery rage and sadness that is wonderfully delivered by Ruby Cruz. This is really a turning point for Kit. She’s able to put certain feelings aside and gain some well needed closure… to a degree. By the end, everyone seems to be on the same page.

Kit is in a much better place, Boorman’s real identity and motives are laid out, and Elora goes through her own transformation. At this stage, bridges have been built, relationships mended, powers unlocked, and their goal in sight. Next week’s episode should provide us with a more connected team who are mentally in sync. The question now is do they have the power to confront The Crone? I guess we’ll find out in the penultimate episode.

    Verdict

Filled with spectacular visuals, episode 6 is Willow‘s biggest episode yet. Not only does it nail the visual aesthetics, but it also provides a lot of development for Kit. This is Kit’s episode and she absolutely owns it. This episode revisits some of the mysterious plot points introduced in previous episodes, and while they don’t have the biggest payoffs, it’s clear that there is still more brewing under the surface. When we reach the finale chunk of the episode we are finally at the stage where our cast are unified and ready for the final hurdle. Unfortunately, with just two episodes left it’s difficult to tell whether the series will be able to stick the landing. Regardless, Episode 6 is fantasy at its finest and it definitely acts as the turning point. Episode 7 should bring us something completely different as the group enter a more focused mindset and we venture deep into the unknown.

    ⭐⭐⭐.5
