Grand Admiral Thrawn Declares War In First AHSOKA Season 2 Trailer

The Grand Admiral is back and he has just declared war on the New Republic. The first season of Ahsoka left fans completely hanging. Ahsoka Tano and Sabine were left stranded on Peridea, Baylan Skoll went on his own mysterious journey that could bring the Mortis gods into the mix, Grand Admiral Thrawn returned to the galaxy with a plot brewing in his brilliant mind, and Ezra Bridger finally reunited with Hera and Chopper after vanishing a decade ago. That’s a lot of strands to contend with. However, after a long wait we finally got our first look at the highly anticipated second season of Ahsoka.

Dave Filoni’s next galactic adventure took to the stage at this year’s D23 event where the first full trailer was shown in all of its glory. There’s a lot to unpack, so let’s look at the highlights.

Check out the awesome nw poster below:
    • We could be boing to Dathomir. There’s a shot of a red planet which resembles Dathomir- Darth Maul’s home planet and home of the Nightsisters which makes sense considering Thrawn has a small army of witches at his disposal.
    • Anakin and Ahsoka flashbacks! Taking us back to the era of the Clone Wars, season 2 will be expanding on Anakin’s relationship with his Padawan. The trailer and costumes on display revealed that we’ll be going to a cold planet that has a threat of its own. While it has all been speculative, fans are still hoping for Obi-Wan Kenobi to appear in these flashbacks donning his iconic armor. It’s not impossible, but these flashbacks seem very focused on Anakin and Ahsoka specifically.
    • A new lightsaber wielder arrives- during the flashback sequence, Ahsoka and Anakin battle an unknown adversary with black eye tattoos. Interestingly, he wields a cyan coloured double-bladed saber that appears to separate with an additional blade. We’re under the impression that this enemy won’t be the main attraction, but instead a vessel to show us how Ahsoka was trained, and how Anakin trains.
    • Baylan Skoll’s hunt for power. According to the Force ghost of Anakin who will be guiding Ahsoka, Baylan was hunting for a power that could end all wars. Considering the end of season 1, it appears as though the Mortis gods will be at the centre of that power. These figures were essentially physical embodiments of the Force. The Father, who originally wanted Anakin to take his place, maintains the balance. The Daugher embodies the Light, while the Son embodies the Dark. With Ahsoka having ties to the Daughter, thanks to the Morai bird that watches over her, it makes perfect sense for the Mortis gods to be introduced. Whether they physically appear is another matter, but whatever this power is, it connects Peridea to the Force in a way we’ve not seen in the live-action universe before.
    • Shin Hati vs Huyang- A fight we didn’t anticipate to be excited for, but here we are. The trusted droid, voiced by David Tennant, is pulling a General Grievous and fighting Shin with 4 lightsabers. Since he helped generations of younglings build their own lightsabers, of course he knows how to use them. We’re not entirely sure what Shin’s role will be in this season since it felt like she was somewhat abandoned, but for whatever reason it forces her to confront Huyang. Could she be helping Baylan? Or could she be looking for a way off Peridea and Huyang is blocking the way?
    • Thrawn’s plan- Well, we don’t really know what he has planned. However, as one of the smartest and most cunning characters in the Star Wars universe, the remnants of the Empire will flock to him undoubtedly. What we really need to see is why Thrawn is so feared. As of right now, he just has his Chimera Star Destroyer, Nightsisters and army of the dead. We really need to see the strategist, which means we unfortunately need to see the New Republic suffer a few losses. In order to understand Thrawn, we have to see how he functions at the helm of a battle.

Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comments. Ahsoka season 2 will be available to stream exclusively on Disney+ on January 20th, 2027.
