There’s a lot going on in the world of Doctor Who right now. The series is gearing up for current Doctor Jodie Whittaker’s exit which also forms part of the BBC’s centenary and the series’ own 60th anniversary.
Whittaker’s exist also marks the end of current head writer Chris Chibnall’s time with the long-running sci-fi series. There’s no escaping that Chibnall will be replaced by the returning Russell T. Davies and brand new Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa. But before we get there we have new episodes featuring the return of beloved Doctor, David Tennant and his former companion Catherine Tate.
A new report which has surfaced via Bloomberg offers up some interesting information on the future of the franchise though. According to the report, Disney+ has entered in to talks with the BBC over what it calls “a new” Doctor Who series.
Talks are said to be in the early stages and there’s no guarantee a deal will be reached. Bloomberg reports that the show would potentially air globally on the Disney+ streaming service. The BBC would also potentially air the program as it has been the home of the show from day one.
Russell T. Davies is, of course, the stuff of Who legend for launching two spin-off series: Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Could his return also herald a re-expansion of the show?
