To mark the end of filming, the BBC and MGM+ have today released the first glimpse of Matthew Macfadyen as George Smiley and Charlie Hunnam as Alec Leamas in Legacy of Spies. The press release is attached.
The eight-part drama adapts John le Carré’s The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, drawing on additional material from his 2017 novel A Legacy of Spies. It marks Smiley’s long-awaited return to television and the first time he has led a TV drama series since Alec Guinness in Smiley’s People.
Matthew and Charlie lead a cast that includes Daniel Brühl, Devrim Lingnau Islamoğlu, Agnes O’Casey, Felix Kammerer, Dan Stevens, Jake Dunn, Anjana Vasan, Charlotte Ritchie, Joe Alwyn and Hugh Laurie.
Legacy of Spies will launch exclusively on BBC iPlayer in the UK, and on MGM+ in the US and selected territories.
