After playing a supporting role for much of the past decade Kate Kane is finally returning to the spotlight as a solo vigilante this week. Today DC Comics has shared new preview artwork for Batwoman #1 ahead of its March 18, 2026 debut in comic book stores and on digital platforms.
Kane’s last solo series came to an end all the way back in 2015, long before the character would appear in live-action in her own television series. Most recently she co-lead the brilliant Outsiders series alongside Luke Fox, exploring some of the more fringe areas of the DC Multiverse.
Writer Greg Rucka returns to the character he co-created when Batwoman made her New 52 debut. Though Kate Kane was initially introduced in the 1950’s, Rucka is credited with completely reinventing her for a new era. He would go on to write the character in the “Elegy” arc of Detective Comics which ran from issue #854-860 in 2009/10. Joining Rucka on this new solo run are artist Dani, colourist Matt Hollingsworth and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou.
Before we dive into the preview artwork, here’s a look at the synopsis for issue #1:
