It’s now just three days to go until ‘Power Rangers’ hits cinemas. Yesterday the embargo on publishing reviews finally lifted and we have begun to learn what the press think of the film. As of writing this the film is holding a score of 50% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes showing a decidedly mixed response. With ‘Aquaman’ on the move from October to December 2018 and ‘The Batman’ no longer due to go in to production this year DC Comics has an opening in its schedule. Ben Affleck has spoken this week about his recent stint in rehab whic has had fans concerned about the state of his next Bat-project. Insiders are telling the press this revelation bares no impact on production due to new director Matt Reeves. Here’s some unexpected news for you. Overnight Sony pictures have announced they are pushing forward with a solo Venom film. Back during the Andrew Garfield days Sony were actively developing spin-off films for Venom and the Sinister Six. Those were presumed to have ground to a halt when Sony entered a deal with Disney/Marvel to share rights to the Spider-Man character. No news on whether this new ‘Venom’ film will tie in to Tom Holland’s MCU Spider-Man universe. Currently known as simply ‘Venom’ the film will hit cinemas on October 5th 2018. Warner Bros. yesterday announced a slight shakeup of their release schedule. Of note to comics fans was the delay of the upcoming solo ‘Aquaman’ film. Originally due to hit screens on October 5th 2018 the film will now drop on December 21st. No reason has been given for the delay. At only two months it’s unlikely to be for any major production issues. The only other film of note being released on December 21st is Sony’s animated untitled Spider-Man film. Great news for fans of the FX series ‘Legion’ this morning. The show has officially been renewed for a second season. With season one still on the air it is expected that season two will premiere in 2018. In a statement to the press FX Presidents of Original Programming Nick Grad and Eric Schrier spoke of their delight at the series success.
