    Synopsis

Harley and Ivy are on the run with almost nothing but the shirts on their backs(and they barely even have those). With all of Gotham City out to get them, the recently friendlier-than-before super-villains appear to have nowhere to go! Illegally can’t make any promises, but it’s very possible that [censored to protect the innocence of middle-aged adults everywhere] in this issue!

    Review

Do you know the phrase “with nothing but the clothes on their backs”? Well, this issue takes that phrae and runs with it…literally. In the vibrant landscape of comic book storytelling, few characters capture our hearts quite like Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, and in Issue 4 of Erica Henderson’s Harley and Ivy: Life & Crimes, she brilliantly continues this legacy, serving up a delightful blend of humour, adventure, and character depth that keeps fans eagerly turning the pages.

The fourth issue in Erica Henderson’s Harley and Ivy: Life & Crimes run continues to showcase one of the most entertaining iterations of these iconic characters. We find Harley and Ivy stark naked, on the run, and illuminated by the spotlight of a helicopter in hot pursuit. What unfolds is a whirlwind chase sequence packed with comedic gold.

Watching Harley and Ivy bicker while fleeing in their birthday suits is a sight to behold! Harley parkouring over a fence, completely unhinged, had me in stitches. At one point, in a fit of rage, she hurls a rock at a guard, hitting him square in the face. His fellow officers shout, “She’s armed and dangerous!”—and I couldn’t help but laugh at the sheer absurdity. The stormtrooper-level incompetence juxtaposed with a naked woman and a rock is a comedic triumph. We even get a cheeky Mean Girls reference tucked into some blink-and-you-miss-it dialogue, perfectly suited for these versions of the characters.

I’ve mentioned this before in my coverage of this comic book run, but it bears repeating: Henderson has a knack for weaving in subtle details that enrich our understanding of Harley and Ivy. We know Harley ran away from the Joker and found Ivy, but their living arrangements and the intricacies of their relationship have often been left unexamined—until now. Henderson skillfully incorporates dialogue that brings these elements to the forefront, addressing questions like where they first met and how they ended up living together. These minor details not only embellish the beloved narrative but also add depth to their bond, making it all the more compelling and relatable.

Harley and Ivy’s love story is undeniably one of the most iconic in comic book history, and Henderson treats them with the utmost love and care. As a fan, it’s heartwarming to witness this thoughtful portrayal, while also making it accessible for newcomers.

    Verdict

Overall, Harley and Ivy: Life & Crimes Issue 4 is a fantastic addition to the series, blending humour and heart effortlessly. Henderson’s writing continues to elevate these characters, making every page a joy to read. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a curious newcomer, this issue is a must-have!
