My Hero Academia: Vigilantes episode two will be available to stream on Crunchyroll from April 14, 2025.
Synopsis
Koichi Haimawari is a dull college student who aspires to be a hero but has given up on his dream. Although 80% of the world’s population has superhuman powers called Quirks, few are chosen to become heroes and protect people. Everything changes for Koichi when he and Pop☆Step are saved by the vigilante Knuckleduster and get recruited to become vigilantes themselves!
Review
Vigilantes episode 2 kicks off right after the first episode, showing the new team staking out the area before encountering Eraserhead himself, a character from the main series who in this timeline is currently not working as a teacher in UA.
Things escalate quite quickly from there, leading to our heroes being attacked from all sides. The thugs from episode one, now all hopped up on the Trigger drug and looking to settle the score, and a member of the public whose quirk is gigantification, also amped up by Trigger, create quite the chaotic scene.
The team proves its worth, along with Eraserhead, who performs his official heroic duty. Koichi also earns points for proving he truly has the heart of a hero with his rescue effort.
Debuting with his new name, The Crawler, he joins the others in hunting down other users of the Trigger drug to close in on its source. Hilariously, two young men they meet during a disagreement are clearly nods to two well-known X-Men characters!
They quickly cross paths with another Trigger user, and Knuckleduster, showing his expert-level knowledge on how to take down such a threat, proves he is more than just brawn! The team is now assembled! Though not before we’re shown two more familiar faces from the mainline anime who debate the moral ethics of vigilantes and their actions in this society.
Based on my current reread of the manga itself, it feels like we’re going through a solid pace. I expect a few fights to be padded out down the line to make this show last a few seasons, which is good in my opinion because, if done right, we could have some truly epic sequences in the weeks to come!
Verdict
Paired with episode one, this is a great start to what will overall be an amazing story and growth for the world of My Hero Academia. I am very much looking forward to seeing the upcoming events and new characters in this already vibrant story.
