Review
Episode 2 of Fire Force Season 3 is a bit of a slow burner (no pun intended). We’re shown the other Companies and their allies reacting to the devastating (and manipulated) news of Company 8’s “betrayal” and how they are now Tokyo’s number one enemy. These allies, however, know better and understand that something foul is coming.
Company 8, already determined to risk it all for Captain Hague, plans their assault on the Holy See and makes some alliances with a past foe in order to achieve their goal. This admittedly caught me off guard, but it is a trope I do love. ‘The enemy of my enemy is my friend,’ while cliché, can always lead to some impressive team-ups in shows like this. It also shows the lengths Company 8 will go to in order to save one of their own.
Apart from this, however, it’s really just a filler episode to get the characters from point A to B, as well as separating the Company into their smaller teams in order to complete their rogue mission.
We are left with an absolute belter of a cliffhanger, though, with what is hopefully the first of many epic fights. It’s clear the anime is wasting no time getting into the meat of the story by rushing us into the action.
Verdict
Fire Force prides itself on some truly beautiful and epic battles in the past, with some of the industry’s best sound effects to heighten the fire-focused fights to legendary levels. I just hope that we get some unforgettable fight moments this season that will blow away last season’s explosive scenes.
