Review
After four years of waiting, Fire Force has finally exploded back onto our screens for its third season.
Last we saw Company 8, the team was stronger than ever after their encounter with the White-Clad, whose attempt to blow up the Tokyo Empire from below was thwarted with some truly epic battles.
This had resulted in the death of the 4th Company’s Captain Hague, however, and for us anime-only viewers, we’ve been left on a cliffhanger all this time!
After a brief recap of the previous seasons’ events, we’re thrown back into the sparring/training some of Company 8 is undertaking to enhance their already strong abilities, while Captain Akitaru Obi gives a report of their latest mission. He is suddenly taken by the Army, who are accompanied by previous villains, the White-Clad. Once word gets to Company 8, the entire unit commits to becoming traitors to the Empire in favor of rescuing their Captain, ultimately setting us up for the next batch of episodes.
Meanwhile, Haumea of the White-Clad, along with her entourage, reveals their new alliance with Raffles III at the Holy See and, through some currently confusing skills, was able to persuade Leonard Burns to join their cause to return the Tokyo Empire to its ‘rightful state’. Something which will be VERY entertaining to witness once he comes up against Company 8’s rescue efforts!
While not action-heavy, this episode does ease us back into the world’s developing plots and the gist of the wild cast of characters. Although, I would highly recommend rewatching Seasons 1 and 2 prior, just to refamiliarize yourself in more depth with the story and the cast. I must admit, even after only seeing the show last year, I was having to think hard about all the events that had happened prior.
Verdict
Fire Force Season 3’s opener eases us back into the fold of this crazy world, and while this felt more like setting up the pieces for a game of chess as opposed to watching the game itself, it does leave me quite excited to see who will match up to whom in the inevitable battles coming our way.
