It’s a wonderful time to be a Tomb Raider fan. The Hayley Atwell-starring anime series is now streaming on Netflix, a new game is on the way and a new batch of remastered games was announced just two weeks ago. Now, if reports are to be believed, Amazon MGM Studios is begging a spirited drive to cast Lara Croft for the upcoming live-action series being masterminded by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Today, Deadline is exclusively reporting that the studio has put together a wish list of accomplished young actors being sought to screen test for the role. Names like Emma Corrin (Deadpool & Wolverine) and Mackenzie Davis (Speak No Evil) are being reported as in the mix. Whilst both aren’t currently expected to screen test, two other recognisable names are reportedly preparing to go on film.
As per Deadline, Sophie Turner (Game Of Thrones) and Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) are on the precipice of testing for the part previously played on the big screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
The as-yet-untitled project was handed a direct-to-series order in May 2024. At the time Amazon MGM Studios Head Jennifer Salke called Waller-Bridge’s plans “epic” and “globe-trotting”. “Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all,” Salke said at the time.
Tomb Raider is executive produced by Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins through Wells Street Productions, Dmitri M. Johnson through dj2 Entertainment, Michael Scheel, and rights holders Legendary Television as well as Crystal Dynamics. Greenblatt and Andolina are consulting producers under their Star Party banner. The series is produced by Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios.
