According to various reports, it has now officially been confirmed that Dave Bautista will be wielding the legendary Leviathan axe (and maybe the Chaos Blades) in Amazon Prime Video’s live-action God of War adaptation.
It was heavily speculated that the Guardians of the Galaxy actor would be replacing Ryan Hurst, who unfortunately departed the series following an on-set injury that left him with a torn bicep. The rumor fizzled out slightly, but today we finally have our Kratos.
Prime Video has given the God of War series two seasons with the goal to film them back-to-back. We also heard that the actor playing Atreus (Callum Vinson) will reportedly be recast in order to allow the time jump between the two seasons. Filming originally started in February, but anything that was shot will now have to be redone. However, it is likely that filming will resume in a matter of weeks.
The cast also includes Mandy Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, Danny Woodburn as Brok, Sonya Walger as Freya, Island Austin as Thrud, Ben Chapple as Magni, Louis Cunningham as Modi, and Evelyn Miller as Gna.
The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
Hopefully with casting officially announced, it won’t be long before we see Bautista in his God of War gear. As always, we’ll keep you posted on any further updates, but we are incredibly excited to see how this show handles Kratos and his journey through Norse Mythology.
