For most people February 14 means Valentine’s Day, a celebration of love and relationships. For gamers, it’s also the birthday of one of video games longest serving heroines, Lara Croft. This year the Lara’s birthday was marked with the release of a new remaster and a first look at her updated design.
With Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered now available on consoles across the globe fans are wondering when a brand new Tomb Raider game may materialise. It turns out we may not have too long to wait as developers Crystal Dynamics has begun ramping up the franchise’s online presence.
First a new Tomb Raider website appeared, offering up content from across the franchise including the recently shared first look at Netflix’s anime series. Then came the debut of a first look image for Lara’s updated character design which you can see in full below.
After recreating Lara’s origin in the most recent trilogy of games, which ended with 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the character appears to be returning to a more classically-inspired design. Seen with her trademark blue tank-top and brown shorts, Lara also sports her traditional twin handguns.
The next game in the franchise was first mooted back in April 2022 but little has been made public since then. It’s understood the latest game, dubbed Tomb Raider Next, is being developed using the Unreal Engine 5 with Amazon Games supporting the development.
