Fires will burn and blood will be spilt. That is how things work in Westeros, especially during the reign of the Targaryens. Today, it was confirmed that production has commenced on the second season of House of the Dragon, with filming taking place at Leavesden Studios in the United Kingdom.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the hit series, set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the bloody history of House Targaryen as they rose to power and ruled over Westeros with an iron fist and with dragons… Many, many dragons.
Ryan Condal, Co-Creator/Showrunner/Executive Producer, says: “House of the Dragon has returned. We are thrilled to be shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera. All your favourite characters will soon be conspiring at the council tables, marching with their armies, and riding their dragons into battle. We can’t wait to share what we have in store.”
The official Instagram page shared a first look from behind the scenes, revealing the majestic yet deformed Iron Throne.
Speaking of the renewal from last year, Zai Bennett, MD of Content at Sky says “House of the Dragon is already proving to be a ratings hit, and we predict it will go from strength to strength due to the captivating storytelling and incredible production values. We look forward to sharing a second series with our customers on Sky and NOW.”
The cast for season two includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. Additional returning cast includes Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham.
With season two entering production, we may get some more details concerning new characters, locations, and story arcs. According to a report via Deadline, this upcoming season will actually be two episodes shorter than the first.
George R.R. Martin is the Executive Producer and Co-Creator alongside Ryan Condal. Executive Producers are Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis.
