Review
In this issue we see the continuation of the One Bad Day series, this time we are looking at the story of legandary eco warrior villain R’as Al Ghul as he continues his quest to rid Earth of all who are causing it harm. His intention to save the planet you can’t knock him for but the implementation isn’t quite like Greta Thunberg , he wants to take out those he feels that are responsible for causing the problems that are facing the Earthly taking out those at the very top and installing those he thinks can make a change. This type of cleansing can’t happen and must be stopped, it’s time for Batman and Robin to step up to probably their biggest challenge yet.
Tom Taylor does a great job in creating a politically charged story but still keeping that DC rawness that will appeal to DC readers while maybe bringing in some new readers with it’s meaningful story, although Ra’s Al Ghul is still one of the worst villains you can’t help but understand his motives.
The illustrations by Ivan Reis and Danny Miki are dark and powerful partner them with the colours from Brad Anderson and you have a winning combination from the creative art team. Each panel takes you further inside the dark journey of cleansing the Earth, the artwork adds depth and emotion to the powerful words that just grips you throughout.
I personally really enjoy the “One Bad Day” series and this one I thought is definitely the best yet, an emotional story that gives the reader plenty of food for thought.
Verdict
In a politically charged story the DC flavour shines through in probably the best “One Bad Day” story so far, a fantastic job from the whole creative team bringing a powerful story with an important message with illustrations that bring the story to life in perfect DC fashion, if perfection existed this wouldn’t be fair from it.
