Review
Last week’s episode of Loki had focused on a lot of revelations of the TVA as well as a deeper exploration on the characters of both Loki and Sylvie and despite the backdrop of the end of a world it was a strong character piece. This week however the chaotic duo return to the TVA to do what Loki’s do best. Bringing the chaos!
We actually got to see the moment Sylvie was taken by the TVA and it turns out it was Renslayer who took her and from the looks of it, they had no legitimate reason to have done so. Sylvie was just a little girl playing with her toys when she was taken, but being a Loki she was able to pickpocket Renslayer and run away but sadly she never stopped running.
Back in the present time (or present to the Loki’s) their acceptance of dying made them realise that they no longer feel alone, and it was that moment of two Loki’s meeting that caused a major Nexus event which led the TVA to capture them.
The pair are quickly separated and Loki is thrown into a time prison where he has to live through one moment again and again. His one happened to be when he cut off Lady Sif’s hair and she retaliates by slapping him and kneeing him in his little Loki’s. (I was told this is an actual story in Norse Mythology so quite a good deep cut from Marvel) It came as quite a shock to see Sif appear again in the MCU as she has been absent since Thor 2 (while she did appear in an episode of Agents of SHIELD that’s no longer considered canon by the real MCU Time Keeper Kevin Fiege) but this episode made her appear so many times just to make up for missing Ragnarok, Infinity War and Endgame.
Mobius and B15 soon realise the truth of the TVA after speaking with Loki and Sylvie. It was not long ago that B15 was openly mocking Variants in front of Loki and now she finds she is just like the people she hunts! Mobius however begins to question things when Renslayer says Hunter C20 died from whatever Sylvie did to her despite her being fine to an extent when they rescued her in episode 2. After Loki tells him that the TVA is lying and that he is a variant he borrows Renslayers device and is shown the interrogation where Hunter C20 confirms she had a life before the TVA before Renslayer cuts the recording. He goes to break Loki out and to rescue Sylvie but before they can even hatch a plan we receive our first heartbreak of the week. Renslayer and some Hunters stop them and Mobius calls her and the TVA before she prunes him from existence!
The Loki’s are taken to the Time Keepers and for the first time we see them in all their glory! As they too are about to be pruned before a now mentally free B25 pops out of the elevator and free’s the chaotic duo who proceed to beat up everyone in the room and Sylvie beheads the centre Time Keeper revealing a very Wizard of Oz moment where they are nothing but animatronics!
They agree they will find answers before our 2nd heartbreak of the week! Loki is pruned out of existence by Renslayer! In blind rage, Sylvie manages to overpower her but instead of killing her she demands answers and we’re left to wait!
But wait! This episode we’re treated to a mid credit scene and OH BOY! Is this a doozy!
Loki wakes up in a ruined New York and finds himself face to face with 4 Alternate Loki’s! Richard E. Grant is Classic Loki (sporting a very old school Avengers comics attire), Boastful Loki (DeObai Oparei) with a very battle heavy look to him. Kid Loki (Jack Veal) looking like that one kid in school you assume is up to no good and what I think is an Alligator Loki!? Perhaps a Loki stuck in this form perhaps? Could we now be having a League of Loki’s stuck in a dead world?
Verdict
After last week’s character focused episode I’m confident many fans were happy for the plot to take so many leaps this week. I was on the edge of my seat throughout and I cannot wait to see next week’s episode. I’m more convinced Kang is the man behind the curtain especially after Renslayer is being made more and more like the antagonist and in the comics she is the love interest of Kang.
With two major heartbreaks this week, I am more hyped than ever for the remaining two episodes and if two Loki’s can bring so much chaos, imagine what an army could bring to the TVA!?
