GamesRadar has uncovered some exciting news for Nintendo fans today. The site has uncovered confirmation that the studio is currently in production on animated Super Mario movie.
Said to have been unearthed from a “Corporate Management Policy Briefing” from the veteran games company the document briefly states that a CGI animated Mario movie is “scheduled for theatrical release in 2022” it is also noted that “production is moving ahead smoothly.”
Original Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and the founder of Illumination, Chris Meledandri are said to be collaborating behind-the-scenes on the project. Illumination will ring a bell to any fan of the hugely successful Minions franchise.
The Super Mario Bros. hit the big screen once before, played by Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo, back in 1993. That film failed to ignite critics or the box office but remains a cult classic with many viewers.
This year the plucky plumber celebrates 35 years in the business. To celebrate the big birthday Nintendo has released Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a collection of three Super Mario games: Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.
