Silk (AKA Cindy Moon) is a Korean-American superhero who was introduced as Peter Parker (Spider-Man’s) classmate and was also bitten by a radioactive spider granting her super abilities. Silk, just like a large amount of Marvel super (and spider) heroes, is owned by Sony.
According to Deadline, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are attached to the project as executive producers under their Lord Miller production banner along with former Sony Pictures Entertainment head Amy Pascal. Lord wrote the story and screenplay for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), which was also produced by Lord, Miller and Pascal.
This is not the first time the Silk has been a planned live action adaptation; in 2018 Sony announced that they were in talks of creating a film of the character. In the same year, Sony also announced a female-centered spin-off of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse which would also feature Silk.
According to Variety, Lauren Moon, a Korean-American writer whose writing credits include Netflix original drama Atypical, is in talks to write Silk. Sony is rumored to be joining with Amazon in creating other TV series’ based on Marvel characters with Sony TV hoping to expand their suite of series. This has been done before by Netflix with Marvel series’ like Daredevil and Jessica Jones and is also being done on Disney+, with series’ such as Ms. Marvel, WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier currently in production.
Hopefully, Sony manages to hold their own against these streaming service giants and give Marvel fans what they want!
