    Synopsis

This is it—not only the final confrontation between Hannah and Vanessa, but the Chimera’s origins revealed! But who will make it out alive, and more importantly, what kind of monster will they become?

    Review

It all comes down to this the final epic showdown of one of my top comic series out at the moment. Hannah and Vanessa finally meet head to head and if you’ve followed the series from the beginning you will know that this isn’t going to be a calm discussion, this is to be the clash to end all clashes. Hannah finally gets what she has always wanted, the chance to get her revenge on the Chimera and mainly Vanessa, but the powers that the Chimera have are powerful and next level evil so going up against them may well be something that Hannah isn’t ready for. Regan has also returned but is it for closure or is it revenge? All we do know is there won’t be many survivors coming out of this. Basilisk’s end was an ending that I would’ve wanted, not your stereotypical good combats evil and all is good with the world in this arc we have more of a complete ending where everything is over as the arc comes to it’s natural end, there is a potential opening for something to carry on from the remnants but for me the bulk of the story is done.

The writing of Basilisk has been phenomenal from the beginning Cullen Bunn captured my imagination and took me on a gruesome journey that was filled with emotion and passion with plenty of though provoking moments, a story that when you finished you were left playing it over in your mind each book expertly written.

The illustrations of this series were graphic masterpieces, each panel was filled with unique and graphic detail but always makes sense with the story. Jonas Scharf really took the words that Cullen put on the paper and elevated them to another level partnering that with the vibrantly dark colours of Alex Guimarães’s work and you just get blown away at the artistic talents from this creative team.

    Verdict

This series has been outstanding from the start and one that I am sorry to see come to an end but on the other hand glad that it did and did so in fantastic fashion. If you only read one series this year make it this one, a creative masterpiece on each page.
