Joe Alwyn (Hamnet, The Brutalist) has joined BAFTA award-winning Tomas Alfredson’s (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Let The Right One In) Seance on a Wet Afternoon, written by Emmy award-winning Jack Thorne (Adolescence, Enola Holmes).

Alwyn joins the previously announced cast of Academy award-winning Rachel Weisz (The Favourite, The Constant Gardener) Emmy and Bafta award-winning Matthew Macfadyen (Succession, Deadpool, Death by Lightning).

Myra, a self-proclaimed medium, convinces her husband Billy to kidnap the son of a wealthy family so she can lead the police to the “missing” child and legitimize her psychic abilities. When Myra’s true intentions come to light, however, Billy realizes her plan threatens to consume them both.

The film is an Element Pictures and Astral Projection production, produced by Robyn Slovo; Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe (for Element Pictures (a Fremantle company)), and Polly Stokes and Rachel Weisz (for Astral Projection). The project is a part of Astral Projection’s first-look and development deal with Fremantle. Film4 and Fremantle financed the film. Executive producers are Jack Thorne, Matthew Macfadyen, Farhana Bhula and David Kimbangi for Film4. FilmNation Entertainment are handling international sales, with UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance handling the domestic rights.

Creatives include director of photography Marcell Rév (Euphoria), BAFTA award-winning  production designer Jacqueline Abrahams (The Lobster), costume designer Sarah Blenkinsop (All Of Us Strangers), Academy award-nominated hair and make up designer Daniel Phillips (Victoria & Abdul) and casting director Jina Jay (The Night Manager).

Alwyn is repped by Independent Talent Group, CAA and Entertainment 360. Alfredson is repped by UTA. Weisz is repped by Independent Talent Group, CAA, Linden Entertainment, Premier PR, and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman. Macfadyen is repped by Hamilton Hodell, UTA, Johnson Shapiro Stewett & Kole and Wolf Kasteler. Thorne is represented by UTA and Casarotto UK.
