Last night Warner Bros. made its annual presentation at the CinemaCon event. Fans had hoped this would include snippets from the DC Extended Universe and they were in for a treat. Members of the cast of ‘Justice League’ were in attendance along with director Zack Snyder. Variety is reporting ‘Batgirl’ is coming to the big screen in a solo outing and she’s bringing Joss Whedon with her. In an exclusive story the outlet is reporting that Whedon, famed for ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and both ‘Avengers’ movies for Marvel, is in final talks to write, direct and produce the film. No other producers are currently attached to the as-yet-untitled film. Toby Emmerich, president and chief content officer of Warner Bros. WIth the pilot for ‘Black Lightning’ currently filming in Atlanta we’ve got our first official look at Cress Williams (‘Heart of Dixie’) in costume. Black Lightning was created back in 1977 and was the first African-America hero in the DC Comics universe to get his own standalone series. Breaking news from camp ‘Arrow’ this evening. Katie Cassidy will be returning to the show as a regular character in season 6! There’s a catch though, she will be returning as her Earth-2 counterpart Black Siren. Fans of the show will know that Cassidy returned for the first episode after the mid-season break raising hopes that Earth-1 Laurel had been resurrected. Today we’ve got our first official look at Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft! Earlier this year photos from the set of ‘Tomb Raider’ leaked online. ‘Power Rangers’ opening the weekend saw the film soar to an estimated $59.2M worldwide. Studio estimates put the film around the $30-40M mark at the North American box office. After grossing approximately $15M on Friday, the film fell slightly the $14.5M on Saturday before rounding out the weekend with $10.9M on Sunday. Overall its North America opening weekend clocked in at $40.9M The international gross was a little more on the lacklustre side. Great news for fans of ‘Power Rangers’. The film took an estimated $3.6M from Thursday previews leading to an $15M Friday at the North American box office. Studio Lionsgate had predicted a $30-40M weekend but it would now seem the film may push beyond $42M if it does well on Saturday.
