Neil is the Editor-in-Chief at GYCO. He has a BA in Film & TV and an MA in Scriptwriting; he currently works 9-5 in an office and 5-9 as a reviewer. He has been reading comics for as long as he can remember and is never far away from any book which has the word Bat in the title.

It was with great suspense that we sat down as a GYCO family to watch ‘Deep Breath’ the feature-legnth (or slightly longer than normal) opening episode for the eight season of ‘Doctor Who’ which premiered on 23rd August 2014. Unless you’ve been living under a rock you will be well aware that ‘Deep Breath’ marks the full debut of new Doctor, Peter Capaldi and when the Doctor regenerates the whole UK watches with bated breath for him to succeed or fail. We’d call this opening episode a success but one that isn’t without its flaws. Lets start with Capaldi, an…

Like many, many other fans of the DC Universe I was pretty shocked that during the ‘Forever Evil’ arc Dick Grayson was unmasked to the world as Nightwing and even more shocked when he was unceremoniously killed off for all the world to see followed by the announcement that the ongoing ‘Nightwing’ title would be coming to an end. Thankfully there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel and for Dick Grayson fans that light is ‘Grayson’ a new ongoing title featuring writing by Tim Seeley, plots from Tom King, art by Mikel Janin with colours by Jeromy…

I’ve been away from the world of ‘All-New X-Men’ since the ‘Battle of the Atom’ arc back at the tail-end of 2013, overall that arc felt like it lacked a little of the impact that I was hoping for but perhaps I was hoping for too much by wanting it to bring the gravitas of ‘Days of Future Past’. Moving on from the events of that arc ‘All-New’ still hasn’t quite managed to let go of the notion of time travel. At this years ‘Cup O Joe’ panel at SDCC those in attendance discussed that upcoming issues will see the…

Another day another ‘Batman Eternal’ review and another stunning cover by Dustin Nguyen who really amplifies the ensemble nature of the story. The colour scheme of the cover fits in nicely with the previous week to create a nice flow and where last week (reviewed here) Batman was a prominent feature this week he steps aside to allow the wider Bat-family to take centre stage. Ironically one person missing from this cover is Batgirl who features quite heavily on the inside pages. Correct me if I’m wrong but this issue marks the debut of several characters to the ‘Eternal’ book:…

‘Batman Eternal’ #14 features a cover by Dustin Nguyen; is written by Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV, with art by Jason Fabok and colours by Dave McCaig. Following a heavy focus on the James Gordon story in #13 (reviewed here) this issue switches the focus to spend more time on the mob war which threatens Gotham. Crusading Lt. Bard continues to make waves across the city and things at Arkham Asylum are getting weird. Firstly I have to give massive praise to Dustin Nguyen whose covers on this series are getting better week by week. Last week the image…

With Batman in his 75th year it was inevitable that both Warner Bros. and DC Comics would be pulling no punches in bringing The Dark Knight to us in as many different facets as possible. One which I hadn’t anticipated would be ‘Batman Eternal’ a weekly addition to the monthly ‘Batman’ title and it’s various already existing offshoots. Whilst ‘Batman’ finishes up the ‘Zero Year’ arc set firmly in the titular heroes past the rest of the Bat-family titles sit firmly in the present day with little to tie them all together in terms of story. Cue ‘Eternal’ which includes…

Last issue (reviewed here!) I talked about wanting to give the issue 5 stars but not being able to due to the lack of action… this month ‘Buffy’ brings us wall-to-wall action in the fight to stop Dracula after his mutation in to Maloker who, if you didn’t already know, is one of the old ones who was living down in the deeper well last season. The highlight of this season – so far- for me continues to be the focus on the supporting cast. Despite the fact that certain characters have been off and had their own side series…
